With a natural Hadrian’s Wall theme, this is a great base for exploring one of the North East’s most famous historic landmarks.
Hadrian’s Wall is a UNESCO World Heritage Site stretching 73 miles from coast to coast, and one of the nearest places to experience it from this side of Newcastle is Heddon-on-the-Wall, where English Heritage says a well-preserved section of the Wall survives. It is an ideal spot for guests wanting to discover Roman history, scenic walks and some of the area’s most distinctive heritage.
The area also gives guests easy access to the Tyne riverside and open green space. Tyne Riverside Country Park, near Newburn, is a popular place for walking, cycling and outdoor time, with routes linking into Hadrian’s Way and the wider Hadrian’s Wall trail network.
That makes this location especially appealing for visitors who want a stay that mixes city access with fresh air and local history.
For days out, guests can head further along the Wall to famous Roman sites and forts, or travel into Newcastle city centre for shopping, restaurants, nightlife and cultural attractions. For something a little different, Wylam Brewery at Exhibition Park is a popular Newcastle venue for food, drinks and live events, set within the historic Palace of Arts building. Altogether, this west Newcastle location makes a great base for discovering Roman heritage, riverside walks and the wider city. Beach 18 mile
