Kingfisher Cottage is a spacious holiday bungalow set just a short walk from the shops, pubs and restaurants in this friendly little town with a working harbour, pier and small beach. With a large rear garden and raised patio area, Kingfisher Cottage is perfect for couples, friends and families looking for a base to tour the county, ideal for cyclists and walkers. With good sized homely rooms, it is an ideal base to stay for a short break or week’s holiday.
Amble is called ’the friendliest port’ and the locals embrace this. The harbour at is home to a busy Sunday market, popular with locals and visitors. Here you can also see the little harbour village with the cute pod style shopping outlets. The harbour area has two great chip shops and a few restaurants specialising in fish.
Boat trips to Coquet are popular to see the RSPB sanctuary home to puffins and seabirds. From the harbour, the views towards Warkworth Castle are lovely on a clear day and you can walk to Warkworth from Amble, past the marina and river. Nearby Warkworth is a pretty picture postcard village dominated by the castle which sits at the top of the village, the pubs and cafès here are all worth a visit.
Amble is the start of an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty stretching along the beautiful coastline to Berwick-upon-Tweed with miles of golden beaches and castles. Make sure you visit Holy Island featured in local author L J Ross novel but ensure you check the tide tables to access the causeway.
No trip to Amble is complete without a visit to Alnwick 10 miles away, where you can visit the Duke’s home of Alnwick Castle, more famed for some Harry Potter Hogwarts Scenes as well as a Downton Abbey Christmas edition.
Of course Northumberland doesn’t just have a coast line, it also has a magnificent Gold Tier International Dark Sky Park and is home Kielder Water, the largest made reservoir in England surrounded by glorious forests and spectacular scenery. Travel west to Hadrian’s Wall towards Corbridge, easily reachable from Amble. The location is ideal for leaving your car behind on a warm evening and strolling down to one of the little places to eat or taking a stroll along the fishing pier. Beach ¾ mile. Shop, pub and restaurant 800 yards.
