Arnside Knott (NT) and Bardsea Country Park are fantastic sites for spotting flora and fauna and enjoying woodland walks with the family or even just you and the dog. A tamer way to spot animals is at Ducky’s Park Farm in Flookburgh, just over 2 miles away. This delightful venue promotes not only farm animals and farming practices but also provides a great day out for the family. The children can dive into the huge indoor play area and the family can enjoy lunch or a snack in the café on those days when the weather doesn’t always co-operate. For outdoor activities look no further; there is not one but two golf courses, pony trekking and even parachute jumping for the adrenalin junkies all within a few miles of Fell View cottage.
For history buffs there is Cartmel Priory which was founded by Augustinian canons over 800 years ago and is a must see for all those interested in ecclesiastical architecture.
Cartmel also has wonderful antique and craft shops to browse along the cobbled streets. If architecture and gardens don’t get your heart pounding then maybe a day at the races will. Less than 2 miles away from Fell View is Cartmel Racecourse which offers the thrill of National Hunt (jump) racing during the summer months.
Cartmel can offer something for all the family with its mix of history, sport and also, food. The full spectrum of restaurants is available from traditional pubs to the Michelin starred L’Enclume. This is the home of sticky toffee pudding and you should take time to sample the local cuisine.
Allithwaite’s own village pub should be on your list too as it serves wonderful home cooked food by a roaring log fire. In addition to the pub the village offers all you might need with a well-stocked general store and post office, a children’s playground, sports field and tennis courts on the doorste

The cottage has Freeview and a selection of videos, DVD’s and CDs for you to enjoy on a quiet night in. The fully fitted kitchen has it all; gas cooker and grill along with a microwave, fridge/freezer, toaster, kettle and iron and board to make this a home from home. Upstairs the 2 bedrooms are a delightful place to end the day. The tastefully co-ordinated rooms are restful and welcoming. Finding it hand to choose - country retreat or holiday by the sea? North West England is such an easy place to travel. There are many cottages that welcome dogs in Lancashire , Peak District or Windermere - some have hot tubs.
