This modern first floor apartment, which has been converted from part of a grand stone-built cottage, is perfect for a country retreat in Loweswater. The apartment is set within mature landscaped grounds and offers superb views across the countryside towards Loweswater. Jose’s at The Grange, which is adjacent to the owners’ B & B, has been refurbished and newly listed for 2018 featuring a new kitchen and shower room. The open plan living area features a double sofa bed; the double bedroom has been lovingly decorated with neutral décor and is complemented with high quality furnishings to make your stay a comfortable one.
The properties are located just a short stroll from Loweswater Lake, nestled in a wooded valley in the Vale of Lorton, the first link in a chain of lakes including Crummock Water and Buttermere. It is a perfect location for walkers, cyclists and climbers who wish to explore the natural expanse of Lakeland scenery and some of Wainwright’s 214 peaks are within easy reach.
Some of the lower fells include Low Fell, Blake Fell and Gavel Fell to the west, Melbreak to the south and some more challenging routes around Grasmoor (2,795 feet), to the east.
The area boasts beautiful flora and fauna as well as an abundance of wildlife including buzzards, kestrels, ospreys and of course red squirrels. A trip to Loweswater wouldn’t be the same without a visit to the local inn, famous for its great food and possibly even greater beer. Meals can be booked in the owner’s local country house by prior arrangement. The surrounding area has many attractions and places to visit. The popular town of Cockermouth is just 7 miles away. With a delightful selection of independent shops, restaurants, coffee shops, deli’s and pubs serving a variety of craft ales, it makes a great day out. It’s also the birthplace of William Wordsworth and home to the famous Jennings Brewery nestled beneath the castle walls.
If you fancy a day at the seaside, you have a great beach at St Bees Head, with plenty of walks and cycle routes. For golfers, you have a number of good courses in the area, the nearest being at Workington, 7 miles away. For family fun, you may want to head to Whinlatter Forest, 8 miles, with some nice, gentle, family cycling trails, or high adrenaline tree top adventure at Go Ape.
