The property is conveniently located in the quiet village of Hoghton, home to one of the country’s major historical sights, Hoghton Tower. Here James 1st of England and 6th of Scotland once knighted a loin of beef in the great hall. There is even a local pub (The Sirloin) which takes its name from this piece of history. Hoghton Tower hosts many local events such as a regular farmer’s market, ghost tours, a classic car show and many major musical events, as well as offering tours of the great hall and an on-site café.
The area is a popular choice with birdwatchers and wildlife enthusiasts, with many wildlife reserves close by such as Martin Mere, Leighton Moss, Marshside, Hesketh Out Marsh and Brockholes, which can all be reached within an hour. The owners, being keen nature enthusiasts themselves, are on hand to offer lots of information on the local birdwatching and wildlife reserves. The area is ideal for walkers and cyclists with nearby Rivington Pike, Beacon Fell, White Coppice and the local Guild Wheel, a 21 mile greenway route which circles Preston, taking in many local attractions, including Brockholes.
There are many local pubs on the doorstep, as well as a local Italian within walking distance and Walton-le-Dale’s Capitol Centre, a retail park offering a mixture of leisure, retail and a cinema, is just a few miles away.
The popular resorts along the Lancashire coast of Blackpool, Lytham and Southport can all be reached within an hour. For more retail therapy, eateries, shows or nightlife, Liverpool, Manchester and the Trafford Centre are also under an hour’s drive. A little further afield guests can explore the South Lakes, the beautiful Ribble Valley and Lancashire’s unspoilt Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the Forest of Bowland, which offers an abundance of walking, cycling and local gastronomy.
