Nestled at the base of Pendle Hill, Swaledale Cottage is the perfect country retreat for those wanting to explore the local area. The cottage is beautifully presented, with a great mix of charm and character whilst at the same time providing all the contemporary and comfortable features of a holiday home. Swaledale Cottage is located on the edge of the village of Barley, which is within the Forest of Bowland, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The village has two good country pubs, a café and a picnic area, all within easy walking distance of the property. Barley is in the heart of Pendle and is steeped in history, most notably for the witch trials.
For those keen on walking, you have many routes to choose from; try climbing the Pendle steps, immerse yourself in history on the Pendle Witch Way or take a relaxing stroll beside Ogden reservoir. There’s even a sculpture trail where you can take in a range of unique and intriguing sculptures made by four local artists. For those keen on cycling, there is an abundance of great cycle routes all around Pendle and the Ribble Valley. Nearby Gisburn Forest also offers a range of great cycling and walking paths as well as fantastic fishing.
The bustling market town of Clitheroe, which is considered to be the capital of the Ribble Valley, is just 8 miles away. Meander through the boutique shops or call in at Holmes Mill, known for having the longest bar in Britain, to have a well deserved drink. There is also a cinema, artisan food hall selling wonderful local produce and bistro. The Lake District National Park, Yorkshire Dales National Park and the Fylde Coast are all within an hour’s drive
