On the north west edge of the Lake District National Park, Cockermouth is a bustling market town with a fantastic range of independent shops, museums, art centre and eating places, and is best known as the birthplace of William Wordsworth. Nearby, you’ll find the beautiful northern fells for walking, Bassenthwaite Lake, with its stunning backdrop of the iconic Skiddaw, and Derwentwater for sailing and Whinlatter for mountain biking. Bassenthwaite is also home to The Lake District Wildlife Park offering a fun day out, and The Lakes Distillery with good food and tasting tours.
