Within 50 yards you are on Kirkgate, home to Kirkgate Arts if you fancy taking in some performing arts on your holiday. Or you can visit Wordsworth House, the birthplace of William Wordsworth, from which this holiday cottage takes its name. You can swim at the local leisure pool or take a trip to the famous Jennings Brewery, nestled beneath the castle walls, and offers tastings and bottled beers to take away.

A stay at Poet’s Retreat gives you the best of both worlds, surrounded on three sides by the Lake District National Park, which means you can choose between the rugged, mountainous scenery of the Lakes and the sandy beaches of the West Cumbria coastline. Jump in the car and visit Bassenthwaite Lake, just 5 miles away, a picturesque lake with beautiful views and the backdrop of Skiddaw, one of the highest mountains in England. Bassenthwaite is also home to The Lake District Wildlife Park, 6 miles, offering a fun day out for all the family, as well as The Lakes Distillery with good food and tasting tours.
