Orchard Cottage is a detached traditional sandstone cottage. Sitting in the quiet and charming Cumbrian village of Little Salkeld, set in the peaceful Eden Valley and nestled under the Pennines bounded by the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales National Park.

The cottage is traditionally decorated, comfortable and welcoming. Offering two bright and well-presented double rooms, a well-equipped kitchen, a comfortable sitting room with beamed ceilings, and a warming woodburning stove for chilly days or winter months.

Outside is a charming enclosed front garden with furniture, perfect for guests to relax and enjoys meals and drinks. Additionally, there is a convenient side entrance leading to a large utility room, great for muddy boots/paws, providing a safe and secure space for bikes and other large valuables. The Cottage is located on the Coast-to-Coast Cycle Route, a perfect location for any keen cyclists.

The local area has plenty to offer! Explore 18th-century caves and an ancient stone circle within walking distance from the cottage.

Enjoy a picturesque walk to Lacy’s Caves, a series of five chambers carved out of red sandstone overlooking the Eden River. And, be sure to visit Long Meg Stone Circle, which dates back to around 1500 BC. The ancient stone circle looks out to Cross Fell, the highest point in the Pennines.

The cottage is just 10 miles away from Ullswater, Pooley Bridge, Lake District National Park, and the beautiful Aira Force Waterfall! Additionally, Keswick is just over a 30-minute drive away. The Eden Valley is an ideal base for couples, a family, or friends seeking to explore the delights of the Lake District whilst evading the hustle and bustle of the honeypot areas.

Just a 5-minute drive away is the village of Langwathby, providing a local convenience shop / Post office along with a traditional pub. Langwathby has its own train station, offering the Settle to Carlisle route undoubtedly the most beautiful and spectacular line in the country. Stopping at the historic Carlisle. If you are looking for some retail therapy jump on the Settle to Carlisle route from Langwathby to Leeds, overseeing the Yorkshire Dales National Park, Pen-Y-Ghent along with passing over Ribblehead Viaduct.



Furthermore, if you are looking for activities to occupy the family, Hunsonby heated outdoor swimming pool (open April – September) is a 5-minute drive away or a 10-minute drive to Lazonby heated outdoor pool. Right next door is a Bank House Equestrian, a family-run horse riding center that welcomes individuals and groups for riding lessons along with hacks out around the local area, even up to Long Meg Stones! They cater to beginners and experienced riders.

Spend some time in Penrith; the hub of the Eden Valley. Just under a 15-minute drive away. A traditional market town offering independent shops, cafes, pubs, and restaurants. Also, where you can find the local amenities and supermarkets. Penrith marks the beginning of the A686, an incredible road claimed to be one of the ten most scenic routes in the world. A 45-mile North Pennines route stopping at Corbridge in Northumberland.
