Whitehaven harbour is home to the Beacon Museum with its interactive displays, or you can tour the Rum Story attraction and find out all about the history of The Jefferson family from the original 1785 shop. The town also has an indoor swimming pool, gym, sports centre and golf course if you’re felling energetic. A trip to this part of the world wouldn’t be complete without visiting to St Bees Head and the pebbled and sandy beaches. St Bees is also the starting point of Alfred Wainwright’s Coast to Coast walk and has been designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

If that’s not enough, Loweswater is just 13 miles away and leads to Crummock Water and Buttermere, and is well worth a visit.
