Overlooking the River Rother in an elevated position is this pretty detached cottage, with lots of character and beams, adjacent to the owner’s farmhouse. Surrounded by 25 acres of farmland, guests can stroll through the field down to the river and fish (licence required), maybe spot an otter or mink, or launch your boat and head towards Rye. Alternatively, boats can be hired further down river.

In the fields, you’ll find some friendly donkeys, ponies and ducks. The cottage makes an excellent base for exploring the medieval town of Rye with its tea shops, antique shops and art galleries. Camber Sands offers all sorts of water sports or simply stroll amongst the dunes and you’ll see why many a film has been shot on location here, including ’The Monuments Men’ starring George Clooney.

Visit Battle Abbey, Hastings with its iconic fishermen’s huts, or hit the wine trail and taste some excellent English wines including those at Chapel Down and Sedlescombe vineyards. After a day’s sightseeing, walking or cycling, return to your cottage and relax on your very own decked terrace with glorious, peaceful waterside views. Beach 6 miles. Shop, pub and restaurant ½ mile
