If you are looking for a quiet country retreat on a working beef and sheep farm, far away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life this is the property for you, where you can see sheep and cattle grazing in the nearby fields, and embark on the many footpaths and contryside walks to be had in the surrounding area. Penfound Country Cottage is just over 3 miles from the coast and a couple of minutes drive to the A39 Atlantic Highway which makes exploring this whole region from Bude in the north to Port Isaac in the south, really easy for travelling. The cottage captures a true rural feel and enjoys uninterupted views over distant rolling countryside and overlooks a large lawn and orchard, which is often occupied by the owner’s two ponies, Annie and Sugar, who will no doubt be waiting at the fence for treats.
This converted barn forms part of the farm complex and has its own private large parking area and a huge lawned garden overlooking the pony paddock. Being a single-storey building, the property is ideal for people of all ages and abilities, however there is one small step in the porch. The friendly farmer owner’s live next door and really welcome guests to their homestead.
Within the local area of Bude you can find an open-air sea pool (open year-round), bowling, an indoor play zone and an 18-hole golf course. There are also plenty of cycle routes, walking paths and horse riding routes to follow, so you are sure to never be short of something to do.
Clovelly, a lovely little fishing village, is just a 35-minute drive away, known for its harbour and cobbled streets. Head in the opposite direction and instead visit Boscastle, another charming village just 5 miles north-east of Tintagel. Creally can be reached in just over an hour’s drive and boasts a popular theme park and resort, or for a slower pace head to Poldark, 26 minutes away by car, a traditional town known for its ships and more recently, for the filming of its namesake TV series ’Poldark’.
If you have children and want an easy going holiday in a great location this is a really good choice. Beach 3½ miles. Shop and restaurant 1 mile, pub 2 miles
