This adorable single-storey bijou cottage is located in the heart of Falmouth, just a short stroll from the water front, harbour, restaurants, pubs, cafés and shops, and beaches are just a 10-minute walk away. Falmouth is a vibrant port with prestigious marinas, with numerous high profile events throughout the year, including Sea Shanty Week in June, music and food events, including Falmouth Week in August with bands and entertainment, and the famous Oyster Festival in October. Whatever time of year you choose to visit, there will always be something to see and be entertained with. Events Square hosts most of the main events and is the home of The National Maritime Museum. The area is a food lover’s haven, with a wide selection of restaurants, and great local food and ales served in many of the quality pubs and cafés. There is also a choice of takeaway’s, including Rick Stein’s fish and chips. Art galleries, a museum, cinema and bowling are all available locally.
Take one of the small ferry services and cross the water to nearby St Mawes, Flushing and Mylor, or take a sightseeing trip or evening cruise down the scenic Helford River, passing many local beaches and coves on route. There is a popular, wildlife sea safari tour where you can watch dolphins, basking sharks, seals and wild birds. Pendennis Castle sits proud on the headland, with its twin St Mawes Castle on the opposite side of the Fal Estuary. Both castles were built by Henry VII. Pendennis (English Heritage) hosts many events through the year, including jousting, history and battle re-enactments, live music and food events, and is open daily to the public.
Falmouth has some of Cornwall’s finest beaches; the sweeping beach at Gyllyngvase has fine white sand, water sports including kayaking, a popular café where you can eat alfresco, or sit and relax in the evening on the glass terrace with a drink overlooking the beach.
Swanpool Beach is a small sheltered cove with a nature lake, small café and water sports centre. There is great access to coastal paths with some amazing scenic walks. Maenporth Cove is a perfect beach for unwinding or swimming, and there is a convenient small beach café and renowned cove restaurant overlooking the beach.
Helford River and creeks offer visitors quiet relaxing areas, woodland walks and glorious sub-tropical gardens to explore, including nearby Trebah and Glendurgan. The area is popular with water sports enthusiasts, with activities including sailing, kayaking and surfing. Other activities on offer in the area include walking, golf, pitch and putt and crazy golf. Cyclists will love the area with its many cycle trails, including the Bissoe Trail running from Devoran on the south coast to Portreath on the north coast. Beach ¼ mile.
