Located in the village of Cockington, Granary Cottage is a first floor holiday apartment located above one of the prettiest thatched gift shops in the village. Situated close to a pretty tea room, the property has been decorated and furnished to a very good standard. Only ¾ miles from Torquay’s seafront and 3 miles from the town centre, this is a perfect spot to take a holiday. Whether you like walking, birdwatching or taking a perfect lazy holiday, Cockington has it all. A real picture-postcard village, Cockington has hardly changed over hundreds of years. There is evidence of Iron Age and Saxon settlements near the local pub, and the village is mentioned in the Domesday Book. This thatched village is the perfect setting for a walk, no matter what time of year it is. It has an historic forge, a court and church, tea rooms, thatched pub and, of course, the lakes and woods. The village sits somewhat incongruously, right in the heart of urban Torbay, but stubbornly refuses to be tainted by modern developments.

The village is one of the most photographed places in the country, and the surrounding country park and woodland makes it an ideal destination for walking.
The pride of the village is Cockington Court, originally owned by the Cary family from 1375 to 1654. It is now home to Cockington Chocolate Company with their sweets, truffles and gifts, and a fabulous contemporary arts and crafts hub, showcasing creative arts from, amongst others, glassmakers, a blacksmith and conceptual artists. With beautiful gardens and a fabulous tea room, its a great place to spend the day, with plenty to see and do for the whole family. Cockington Court also has a connection to the English Riviera’s most famous daughter, Agatha Christie. In her youth, she often visited the village, and her novel ’Why Didn’t They Ask Evans?’ is dedicated to her friend Christopher Mallock.

The Mallocks regularly staged amateur theatricals at Cockington Court and, despite her terrible shyness, Agatha Christie regularly took part. Think afternoon tea, cricket on the green and the gentle pace of village life you would find in an Agatha Christie Miss Marple novel (without the murders of course!), and you have the rural idyll that is Cockington. If you want to truly experience traditional, English country life, come to Cockington on the English Riviera, South Devon’s beautiful bay.
Brixham and Paignton are also close by. Take a trip on a steam train from Paignton to Dartmouth, enjoy the theatre at Torquay or take a ferry over to Brixham for the day. There are also many National Trust properties nearby. Beach ¾miles. Shop 1¼ miles, pub and restaurant 500 yard
