There are miles of walks including along the South West Coastal Path, over Dartmoor and riverside walks. Swimming and beaches can be found along the 22 miles of the English Riviera coastline, where there are 20 beaches that range from wide sandy stretches to hidden rocky coves. Boat trips in the bay are bookable from the harbourside and piers, and small boats and pedaloes for hire from most beaches. There is an attractive list of sailings for trips by sea or river bookable at Princess Pier, Haldon Pier and the harbourside, while there is unequalled sailing and yachting in Torbay, and the regattas in August are a superb spectacle.

The Royal Torbay Yacht Club is at Beacon Terrace, a short walk away, and for those wishing to learn more there are two sailing clubs in Torquay. Sea fishing is available from Princess Pier and Haldon Pier, or from rocks and beaches around the coastline. The beautifully situated 18 hole course at Torquay Golf Club is on Petitor Road, Saint Marychurch.
Going further afield, you can ramble across the wilds of Dartmoor National Park, see the Dartmoor Ponies, and visit places of interest such as Widdecombe, while Totnes and Dartington Hall are less than 30 minutes away. Totnes is an Elizabethan river town with an ancient castle, and Dartington Hall has glorious gardens and world famous arts and music activities, making this an essential place to visit. Dartmouth, Dartmoor, Salcombe, Exeter and Plymouth can all be easily reached.

Paignton Zoo is only a mile or so away and there are river and sea cruises, and steam train trips nearby. In addition to this, the South Hams has some of the most beautiful beaches you’ll find anywhere. Whether walking and exploring the rugged Dartmoor landscape with its great granite tors and Dartmoor ponies, climbing, letterboxing, horse riding, golfing, or just having a very relaxing break, Dartmoor has it all.
Exeter is the regional capital for culture, leisure and shopping. Surrounded by beautiful countryside and just a few miles from the sea, it brims with colourful character and offers a delightful mix of attractions, restaurants and shops in a setting of architectural splendour. Enjoy heritage, arts, festivals and award-winning locally produced food and drink, or venture beyond the city and explore the Jurassic Coast of East Devon and the National Parks of Dartmoor and Exmoor. Beach ½ mile. Shop, pub and restaurant 100 yards.
