Preston Mill Barn is a unique barn conversion located close to the old Wensley Station near Leyburn. Nestled in beautiful countryside with stunning views across Wensleydale towards Penhill, it is a perfect retreat for two people. A short stroll away is the village of Wensley, built by Lord Bolton to serve the estate, which also includes nearby Castle Bolton and Bolton Hall. Wensley has an excellent pub, a beautiful church, and should it be needed, a good bus link to the market town of Leyburn, less than 2 miles away.
The barn was converted in 2011 and provides compact single level accommodation. The living area is open plan, with a wood burner, lovely slate floors, wooden beams and French doors opening out onto the terrace taking in the stunning views. Just off the living area is a kitchen with dining table. The south facing bedroom has a comfortable double bed with access from one side only.
A shower room with toilet is adjacent and completes the accommodation. Step outside into the gorgeous south facing garden with patios and take in the amazing views across the valley to Penhill. Surrounded by stunning countryside, this is the most precious spot to sit and enjoy the peace and tranquillity.
There is so much to enjoy in nearby Leyburn with quaint local shops, cafés, traditional pubs and a weekly farmers’ market. This is the perfect base for guests to enjoy walking, cycling, sightseeing or just for a quiet, romantic break. Stroll along the famous Leyburn Shawl or walk to Castle Bolton, Middleham Castle, Constable Burton Hall Gardens and the nearby Aysgarth Falls. A short drive away is Hardraw, home to England’s highest unbroken waterfall. The Shawl is only a few steps from the market place in the centre of Leyburn and is accessible for walkers of all abilities and ages.
Hop on the Wensleydale Vintage Bus to Ripon or Hawes, or ride the train on the Wensleydale Railway. Visit the nearby Forbidden Corner attraction in Coverdale where guests can follow a trail of follies, or the Georgian market town of Richmond, which offers many shops, restaurants, pubs and tea shops. This beautiful and historic town is settled high above the River Swale and offers panoramic views of the surrounding area. Browse the weekly market or monthly farmers’ market with local produce and crafts. Visit the historic city of Durham with its cathedral, castle and city walls.
