Pickering is a wonderful base for exploring the North Yorkshire Moors and the nearby coastline. Pickering itself is a pretty market town, with a medieval castle.

The steam train winds its way from Pickering over the rolling heather, through valleys and over hills to many picturesque villages all the way to Whitby. Ideal for a special day out. In December they even have a themed Christmas Santa Special on the steam train. The North Yorkshire Moors is a haven for walkers with many trails to explore and an abundance of wildlife. Nearby you have Malton the food capital of Yorkshire with a market, award-winning restaurants and a cookery school. Castle Howard is one of Britain’s finest stately homes, sure to fill you with awe. There are also the beaches of Scarborough, Filey and Bridlington. For children why not treat them with a day out to remember at Flamingoland theme park and zoo less than 10 minutes away.
