In the picturesque village of Langthwaite in Arkengarthdale, famed for its many scenes in James Herriot’s All Creatures Great and Small, sits Abraham’s Cottage. This double fronted, traditional, stone-built semi-detached cottage overlooks the village green and unspoilt countryside beyond. Lovingly restored to a high standard it offers luxury accommodation perfect for a couple enjoying a romantic getaway in a peaceful and tranquil setting, or a small family retreat. Oak floors and whitewashed wood panelled ceilings give a feeling of calm and relaxation, and the spacious living room invites you to curl up around the wood burner and enjoy quality time with your family or friends. The contemporary farmhouse style kitchen offers beautiful heated slate floor, modern appliances and accessories. There is a separate dining room complete with decorative inglenook, or step outside into the private courtyard and dine al fresco whilst admiring the surrounding countryside.
The first floor offers two bedrooms boasting en-suite facilities with large double showers. With beamed ceilings and sumptuous soft furnishings and bedding, you’ll soon relax and unwind.
Langthwaite is perfect for the outdoor enthusiasts. The wild, rugged and varied scenery provides miles of walks, both low-level, gentle strolls along the river and more challenging high-level walks. With high mountains and valleys lined with streams, there are endless footpaths around the most spectacular scenery. The area is increasingly popular with cyclists and the nearby Dales Bike Centre offers cycle hire. The ‘Swale Trail’ runs from Reeth to Keld and is ideal for families. At the end of a long day of exploring, the cottage is within easy walking distance of two pubs. 8 miles further, the road climbs slowly up the valley to eventually reach the highest pub in England - the Tan Hill Inn.
There is an abundance of places to visit from Langthwaite. Reeth, with its pubs, cafés, gift shop and ice cream parlour, is just 3 miles away. The historic town of Richmond, famous for its castle and Georgian theatre, is around a 30-minute drive, and in the opposite direction is Barnard Castle, with its market, antique shops and famous Bowes Museum. Driving across into Wensleydale takes you to the market towns of Hawes and Leyburn, with a host of attractions located in the surrounding area. The Forbidden Corner in Middleham is only 16 miles away. The picturesque Aysgarth Falls and Bolton Castle are en-route, with many other pretty picture postcard villages to discover as you pass through. Shop 3 miles, pub 500 yards, restaurant ¾ mile.
Finding it hand to choose - log cabin or holiday cottage near the beach? Yorkshire is very hospitable. Couples will find pet welcome holidays in Bronte Country, Herriot Country or Pennines - some have private tennis courts.
