This coastal retreat, Coastguard Cottage Paradise, is a superbly presented holiday property tucked away in a quiet little corner in the picturesque ’Old Town’. Just a short stroll up from the hustle and bustle of the promenade and harbour. Originally part of the coastguard station, this house has been lovingly restored to a very good standard by its present owners. From the front of the property, you can enjoy sea views from all three floors, and from the rear, there is the famous Scarborough Castle. The town centre is a short stroll where you will find plenty of restaurants, shops, bars and the Stephen Joseph theatre, famous for its world premieres of most of Alan Ayckbourn’s plays.
Scarborough also boasts the largest open air theatre in Europe, where during the summer months they have some excellent shows.
There’s the north bay and the south bay, both very different but both share a very long promenade of over 3 miles to have that leisurely stroll. Walk along the beach and spot wildfowl, waders and other seabirds as well as seals and porpoises.
Head north and within a few minutes you are in the North York Moors National Park with game birds, curlew and deer. Catch the steam train from Pickering to Whitby which winds its way through the moors. Head south for the Wolds made famous by the artist David Hockney who was inspired by the scenery, or visit Filey, Flamborough and Bridlington. Bustling with puffins and gannets, the RSPB bird sanctuary at Bempton Cliffs is just a 10-minute drive away.
Other attractions include The Sea Life Centre, the North Bay Railway, Peasholm Park and the fantastic Flamingo Land Theme Park is just 30 minutes away. The medieval city of York is an hour away and is accessible by car or train. Visit the fantastic York Minster or walk the city walls.
Once back from the hustle and bustle, you can relax, unwind and take in the invigorating sea air on the south facing decking area, ideal for alfresco breakfasts and suppers. Families will love staying at this cottage near the beach. The combination of fantastic views, accommodation, sandy beaches and great attractions are not to be misse
