Scarborough Esplanade Cottage
5 bedrooms, sleeps 10

A spacious holiday home just a short stroll from the beach, ideal for generations of families to holiday together in the wonderful seaside resort of Scarborough.

Scarborough Esplanade is a mid-terrace Victorian residence with lots of period features. The large living room has a cosy multi-fuel burner for those chilly winter evenings and the kitchen/dining room has patio doors out to a courtyard, ideal for when the sun is shining. There’s always plenty to do in Scarborough, from the Stephen Joseph Theatre (home to most of Alan Ayckbourn’s world premieres), to the largest open air theatre in Europe where famous bands play. There’s plenty of bars and restaurants within walking distance as well as shops and other useful amenities. At the bottom of the road, the sea stretches out in front of you; walk down through the Italian gardens or catch the cliffside tram to the beach.

Laze on a seat and enjoy the view along the coast in the north towards Whitby, and south towards Filey and Flamborough Head. Scarborough has two very large sandy bays, great for the kids. The walk along the Marine Drive is enjoyed by locals and visitors alike. The castle is perched on the hillside overlooking the two bays. Scarborough forms part of the Cleveland Way so you can follow it as it meanders its way along the coast, finishing at Filey. From Scarborough you can also walk the Cinder Track up to Whitby. This used to be the old railway line so most of it is flat, great for cyclists and those with young families.

Stop off at one of the local pubs for some lunch - there are a few on the route. The chalk cliffs at Bempton are just a short drive away. Bempton Cliffs is a RSPB bird reserve where thousands of migrating seabirds land each year. See puffins, guillemots and kittiwakes as well as seals and dolphins if you are lucky. Within a short drive you can be in the resorts of Filey, Flamborough Head, Bridlington and of course Whitby. The city of York is just an hour away and can be reached by train from Scarborough or by car. Beach 440 yards. Shop and pub 220 yards, restaurant 20 yard
