This beautiful, home from home cottage is perfectly situated a short walk from the centre of Whitby, yet is in a peaceful residential area of this mesmerising fishing town. A perfect retreat for couples and small families alike, this end-terrace house is set over four storeys, and has a comfortable living room with a flame-effect fire and a well equipped kitchen. The bedrooms are on the upper levels along with the bathroom, and there is a small but adequate courtyard at the front of the property, perfect for enjoying a drink on after a day of exploring or relaxing on the beach.
Whitby has so much to offer all year round, and is a very popular place to visit with its regular festivals and events such as the Whitby Regatta, Folk Week and the bi-annual Goth Weekend. There is a large selection of pubs, quaint antique and gift shops, and famous fish and chip shops, as well as an up-and-coming foody scene with some fabulous bistros.
The local tour bus is an excellent way of visiting some of Whitby’s highlights, including the stunning abbey and St Mary’s Church, positioned on the cliff top where you can enjoy spectacular views over Whitby and out to sea. Whitby also has a 3km stretch of golden sands, perfect for rockpooling and building sandcastles, and there is even a surf school nearby.
There are many pretty resorts dotted along the coast, such as Sandsend, Runswick Bay, Staithes and Robin Hood’s Bay, which are great for exploring our maritime history, including Captain James Cook, smugglers and pirates. Elgin Cottage is also the perfect base for exploring the North York Moors National Park and the Yorkshire Dales National Park.
Travel by steam train into the heart of ’Heartbeat’ country, or take a trip out to sea on one of the many boat trips that leave the harbour in search of dolphins and whales at the right time of year. The Cleveland Way snakes along the coast and is a must for those who enjoy the great outdoors. Falling Foss Waterfall, Roseberry Topping and Sutton Bank are just some of the natural beauty attractions in the area, whilst the medieval walled city of York is just an hour’s drive or train ride away, with its National Railway Museum, Jorvik Viking Centre and medieval cobbled shopping area. The Victorian town of Scarborough is just 20 miles down the coast, and boasts an open-air theatre attracting well known bands and artists, a waterpark and a Sea Life Centre. Beach ½ mile. Shop, pub and restaurant 50 yards
