Retro Retreat is a truly unique coastal hideaway in the heart of Whitby, offering stylish three-storey accommodation just moments from the beach. Formerly the garage of the iconic Metropole Hotel, this striking property was thoughtfully converted in 2020 and now blends retro-inspired design with modern luxury in an exceptional seaside setting.
Step inside and you’ll find a bright and sociable open-plan living space on the ground floor. The kitchen, dining and lounge areas flow seamlessly together, creating the perfect place to relax and entertain. Bi-fold doors open directly onto the terrace and front garden, allowing sea air and sunshine to flood the space. A convenient downstairs toilet completes this level. The interior design takes inspiration from retro style, mixing quirky vintage touches with modern appliances, while luxurious white bedding and fluffy white towels add a hotel-quality finish.
The kitchen is exceptionally well equipped, featuring a Nespresso coffee machine (using original pods). Guests will find plenty of cutlery, crockery, cooking utensils, baking dishes and oven trays, with teatowels and oven gloves provided for added convenience.

The lounge area offers a comfortable corner sofa, a smart TV and a thoughtful selection of books, games and guidebooks.
On the first floor is a beautifully presented family bedroom with two single beds. Bi-fold doors open onto a private balcony with views over the promenade and out to sea, making it a wonderful space to wake up in. This floor also benefits from a modern family bathroom with toilet and shower.
The second floor is home to the impressive master bedroom, featuring a king-size bed, walk-in wardrobe and a sleek en-suite shower room. A further set of bi-fold doors opens onto a balcony with elevated views across the Whitby coastline and town – an ideal spot to enjoy a morning coffee or watch the sun set.
Outside, the property boasts a terrace and garden area at the front of the house, furnished with outdoor seating, offering lovely sea views and a peaceful place to relax. Two private parking spaces at the front of the property are a rare luxury in Whitby, and even more exceptional is the inclusion of an EV charger. Guests can make use of the 7kW Type 2 untethered charger, with a 15m charging cable provided.

EV charging is available at 30p per kWh, covering electricity and service provider costs.
Retro Retreat is perfectly positioned just one minute’s walk from the West Cliff Promenade and only a minute from the beach. Whitby town is an easy stroll away, meaning you can park up and explore on foot. The town is brimming with character, offering a fantastic choice of independent shops, cafés, restaurants, pubs and bars, many of which are open all year round.
The location is ideal for discovering the wider area too. Explore the dramatic Yorkshire coastline with visits to Robin Hood’s Bay, Scarborough or Saltburn, or head inland into the rolling landscapes of the North York Moors National Park. Whitby is also the terminus of the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, where you can hop aboard a steam train for a memorable journey through the countryside to Pickering. The local beaches at Whitby and nearby Sandsend are stunning, offering everything from classic seaside fun for families to surfing for more adventurous visitors.
