There is also a public golf course close by. The Whitby coast is ideal for beach lovers, those wanting to take a boat trip out to sea in the hope of spotting a whale, or for those wanting to enjoy the long stretch of all year round dog friendly beach. The Victorian town of Scarborough is just to the south, with its Sealife Centre and the popular open air theatre, attracting top musical acts for all ages. Saltburn and Sandsend are popular with surfers, and the quaint village of Staithes is worth a visit with its links to the explorer Captain James Cook.
