Set between the Peak District villages of Calver and Baslow in the heart of the Peak District National Park and next to the owner’s home, Blackcurrant Cottage can be found at Stanton Ford Farm, a working beef farm, and was completely refurbished throughout in 2018. Full of traditional character, this semi-detached cottage is warm and homely, and benefits from a magnificent wood burner that takes pride of place in the cosy living room. Calver is an attractive, stone-built village with many popular walks radiating from the area, and is home to a well stocked convenience store and a couple of good pubs serving food.
In the other direction is Baslow, a busy little village which borders the northern fringe of Chatsworth Park. Again, an excellent base for walking with the famous gritstone edges of Baslow, Curbar and Froggatt all nearby and boasting breathtaking views. Baslow offers a couple of pubs, cafés and restaurants, including a superb Michelin-starred restaurant.
The surrounding area holds Chatsworth Estate, Haddon Hall and the ever popular market town of Bakewell, all accessible in around a 15-minute drive.
The National Trust-owned Longshaw Estate is around a 10-minute drive, as is the fascinating plague village of Eyam. From Hassop Station Café you can hire bikes, jump on the traffic-free Monsal Trail and cycle through some of the Peak District’s most spectacular limestone dales. Alternatively, you have the beautiful honeypot village of Castleton, Hathersage with its open-air swimming pool, or wonderful Edale all in around a half hours drive.
