This large, detached property enjoys plenty of privacy and country charm. A brook flows around the periphery of the property and the relaxing sound of this along with the birdsong, is all you can really hear. Many original features have been retained and enhanced, so there is no shortage of character with beautiful beams, flagstone floors and exposed stone walls. The modern comforts are just as impressive, four bedrooms, a ground floor shower room and a private hot tub overlooking magnificent views. The beautiful painted, well-equipped kitchen has a stunning range style cooker and also a coffee machine, and is open plan with the dining room, hosting a large farmhouse dining table and access to the enclosed patio and hot tub. Up a couple of steps into the barn and you see the expanse of the vaulted ceiling complete with the original crook beam as well as an oak mezzanine. A large Smart TV, a PlayStation and the wood burner are for your enjoyment, or just gaze out of the bi-fold doors into the greenery beyond. Also downstairs is a super kingsize bedroom (The Basset Room) and exposed stone entrance hall.
Upstairs are the other three gorgeous bedrooms, all complete with luxury en-suite facilities with underfloor heating. The Fabrick Room has a bath as well as a shower so is ideal for those with small children.
All bedrooms have a fresh and calm feel with crisp white Egyptian cotton bedding, along with TVs and complementary toiletries. With zip and link beds and pull-out single beds there are plenty of layout options to choose from when making your booking. Fluffy towels, robes and slippers are provided as standard, as well as a little turndown treat for your first night.
The outside space at Alton Hall Cottage is exceptional – there are several separate areas, so you can choose to be together or seek a little solitude. The main garden has a beautiful covered dining area with lighting and screening foliage, along with a stone firepit and seating area, perfect for making the most of the evenings. This area follows onto the rear patio with views of the brook and the glorious hot tub. Off the patio is the enclosed lawn, perfect for children to play and enjoy the views from the large swing and other outdoor play equipment provided. Finally there is the Secret Garden; tucked away along the side of the brook, cosy seating and subtle lighting hides behind the arch and is the perfect spot for quiet contemplation and escape. A public footpath runs along the lane of the property so you are immediately linked to the extensive network of footpaths in the Ashover Parish and beyond.
Alton is a small, peaceful hamlet, whose neighbouring villages are Ashover, Wingerworth and Clay Cross, all of which have good amenities. Chatsworth House is just a 15-minute trip, as are Haddon Hall and Hardwick Hall, and the nearest town is Matlock, full of attractions and amenities. There is a beautiful park, the attractions of Matlock Bath and the Heights of Abraham (a hilltop park), as well as a popular golf course and antique shops. Bakewell, with its bustling farmers’ market, boutique shops and riverside activity, is just 20 minutes away, and is a perfect gateway to both the Dark Peak and White Peak areas that this stunning region is known for. The historic market town of Chesterfield, with its famous crooked spire, is just 6 miles away and has many cycle paths along its canal, as well as plenty of rainy day activities. Slightly further afield you can find Bolsover Castle (English Heritage) which is full of intrigue and proud history, and which boasts a calendar brimming with events, plus Renishaw Hall and their vineyard tours. Alternatively, you can try your hand at a variety of water sports at Carsington Reservoir or take in a peaceful yet stunning walk around Ogston Reservoir. Shop, pub and restaurant 1 mile.
