North Cottage is in the heart of School Aycliffe, perfectly situated for exploring the many local attractions and places of interest. The Cathedral City of Durham, a World Heritage Site, can be reached within a 20-minute drive.

Durham is home to many popular tourist attractions including the Lumiere Festival, jazz festival, book week, arts week, the Gala Theatre, castle and cathedral, as well as shops and an excellent choice of places to eat and drink.
In Bishop Auckland, a must see is the outdoor spectacular Kynren - An Epic Tale of England. This historical pageant receives thousands of spectators each year and prior booking is essential. Another popular activity for all ages is the nearby National Railway Museum.
