Out and about Heighington proves to be a good central base for exploring the North East and Yorkshire Dales and being 5 minutes from the A1. The cathedral city of Durham, a World Heritage Site, can be reached within a 20-minute drive. Durham is home to many popular tourist attractions including the Lumiere Festival, jazz festival, book week, arts week, the Gala Theatre, castle and cathedral as well as many designer boutiques, shops and with an excellent choice of places to eat and drink.
Within easy reach are Barnard Castle, the North East coast, the Yorkshire Dales, the Lake District and the Northumberland Coast. For the outdoor enthusiast, cyclists, ramblers and leisurely walkers will find many walks and cycle paths suitable for all abilities. You can explore Low Barns Nature Reserve, one of County Durham’s most important wildlife sites.
