It sits along the Northumberland Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, a few minutes’ walk from the dunes and seven mile sandy beach of glorious Druridge Bay, part of the National Cycle Network ‘Coasts & Castles’. Nature reserves and walking trails are on the doorstep, with watersports activities and fishing nearby close by.
Ornithologists may see the rare golden snipe or bee catchers, whilst families of Little Owls send a flutter of delight to even casual bird watchers.
Holy Island, Alnwick with its famous station book store and castle and gardens, used in the Harry Potter films for Hogwarts, Blyth with its lighthouse and Seaton Delaval Hall, Bamburgh Castle, Newcastle, boat trips from Amble around Coquet Island, and Seahouses with boats to the Farne Islands, are all within easy driving distance. Takeaways, delicatessens, cafés, pubs and restaurants cater for all from fish and chips and award-winning ice cream, to more adventurous palates.
Just along the coast from the cottage towards Cresswell is the popular Drift Café and a dining pub is around a mile away. Amble has a Sunday market, plenty of eateries, a marina and harbour side shops. A plentiful range of further places of interest and activities, plus supermarkets are all within a short radius.
