Smuggler’s Cove is set a gentle 15-minute stroll from the working harbour in this friendly seaside town. The harbour has been redeveloped and now houses a few fish restaurants and small pod-style craft shops as well as some pretty beach huts you can hire for a modest fee for the day. Boat trips can also be taken from here and the very popular Sunday market is a real treat with fresh fish, meat, vegetables and a variety of goods. There is a popular fish and chip shop just a few yards away and an award-winning ice cream shop a little further with a fabulous selection of ice creams and sundaes.

Warkworth Castle can be seen on a clear day from the harbour and you can walk from Amble along the pretty river estuary. The small beach in Amble is ideal for youngsters or to visit the Northumberland Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty for miles of golden beaches, castles, and friendly villages and is just perfect for cycling and walking for all abilities. Alnwick Castle where the Duke of Northumberland lives, and the film set used in ’Harry Potter’ is only a few miles away.

Amble is on the edge of the Heritage Coast and a great location for exploring with everything on the doorstep if you wish to leave the car behind. The railway station at Alnmouth is only 6 miles away where you can leave the car and hop on a train to Edinburgh, Newcastle or York if you wish to have a change of scenery. Warkworth with the hillside castle, picture postcard church and tiny village square is only 2 miles away with some great pubs and cafés. Beach 2½ miles. Pub and restaurant 175 yard
