A delightful cottage for a romantic break or perfect getaway just for two, Clarence Cottage is ideally placed for enjoying Appleby, the county town of Westmorland, and the picture perfect surrounding areas. The cottage has been restored to offer comfortable and well equipped accommodation that perfectly mixes contemporary touches with traditional features. The flagstone floors and wood burner create a delightful cottage charm, whilst carefully chosen bed linen and furnishings appeal to the discerning guest. A spacious contemporary bathroom and neat, contemporary kitchen provide guests with comfort and well equipped facilities and the bonus of a pretty garden, guests at Clarence Cottage have a delightful spot in which to enjoy warmer days. The cottage is in the perfect location for enjoying the hospitality of the popular local inn, making it ideal for long weekends with busy days out and about finishing with an evening of typical Cumbrian hospitality – perhaps a Cumbrian ale, a chilled wine and a chefs special by the cosy fire, all conveniently on your doorstep.
Historic Appleby enjoys a reputation as one of the prettiest market towns. Sitting alongside the River Eden, it offers something for everyone – history buffs will enjoy the architecture evident in the towns buildings and Appleby Castle, open for visits, outside theatre events, comedy nights and outdoor cinema events throughout the year. Shops, cafés and restaurants offer local crafts alongside local cheeses! Look out for High Cross on Boroughgate, which is the site of the original cheese market. For train enthusiasts, or those looking to enjoy a journey through the stunning surrounding areas, Appleby is on the Settle to Carlisle scenic railway line. Steam trains run weekly through the summer months and the Flying Scotsman passes through on the line from time to time – a sight to behold.
A short stroll form Clarence Cottage is Jubilee Bridge and weir. A great spectacle in Autumn is the sight of the salmon jumping to get ‘up river’, with herons looking to seize an opportunity for a tasty bite. A delightful stretch of riverbank, which is a Site of Special Scientific Interest, there are otters to be spotted and a wealth of birds and flowers to be noted. Fishing enthusiasts can purchase a ticket from the local ironmongers. Clarence Cottage offers guests an ideal bolthole to enjoy a romantic weekend – perhaps going no further than the public house next door! Alternatively, it offers an excellent base from which to enjoy the Eden Valley, North Pennines and Northern Lakes with Lake Ullswater just a short drive away. Shop ½ mile, pub and restaurant 15 yards.
