Extra Amenities

Located in a rural village location, yet within easy walking distance of a great pub/restaurant and only 3 miles from the popular town of Cockermouth, this quaint terraced cottage dating back to the 1600’s boasts tonnes of original features and has been lovingly hand crafted to make the most of the features of the property. You will notice the care and attention that has gone into this carefully restored property. Each element has been thoughtfully created with plenty of love and guests comfort in mind. The ground floor boasts low ceilings, wooden beams, a cosy wood burner and hand crafted furnishings throughout. The original stone floor has been restored and each of the items of furniture offer a glimpse to its heritage. This leads to a spacious kitchen and dining room, which again has links to its heritage, and offers a good mix of traditional and modern equipment all complementing one other. Upstairs you will find a comfortable bedroom and an exceptional bathroom, which by contrast offers a contemporary feel with walk-in shower.

Springlea Cottage is in the village of Deanscales which is just south of Cockermouth but within about 1 mile of the Lake District National Park border.

Your nearest lake is Loweswater, which is one of the smallest lakes in Lake District, yet arguably one of the prettiest. Loweswater is the first link in a chain of lakes including Crummock Water and Buttermere. If you like to explore and are into walking, hiking, climbing or cycling, you have a vast expanse of natural Lakeland scenery to explore, including many of the 214 Wainwright peaks within easy reach. Some of the lower fells include Low Fell, Blake Fell and Gravel Fell to the west, Mellbreak to the south and to the east, some more challenging routes around Grasmoor at 2,795ft.

The area boasts beautiful flora and fauna as well as an abundance of wildlife, including buzzards, kestrels, ospreys and of course red squirrels. A trip to Loweswater wouldn’t be the same without a trip to the local pub, famous for its great food and possibly even greater beer! Famously brewing the award-winning Loweswater Gold, it’s a ’must try’.

The surrounding area has many attractions and places to visit. The popular town of Cockermouth is just 3 miles away with a delightful selection of independent shops, restaurants, coffee shops, deli’s and pubs serving a variety of craft ales. It’s also the birthplace of William Wordsworth and home to the famous Jennings Brewery nestled beneath the castle walls.

If you fancy a day at the seaside, you have a great beach St Bees Head, 15 miles away, with a long stretch of golden sand and plenty of great walking and cycling routes. For golfers you have a number of great courses in the area, the nearest being Cockermouth, 6 miles. You may want to head to Whinlatter Forest, 7 miles, with some nice gentle cycling trails or high adrenaline tree top adventure at Go Ape. Continue along the Whinlatter Pass to Keswick, 16 miles, to find everything this bustling town has to offer. The Lake District Wildlife Park at Bassenthwaite, 10 miles, offers a really wild day out with over 100 species of wild animals. Beach 12 miles. Shop 3 miles, pub and restaurant 530 yards.
