Sandbed Cottage nestles at the foot of the slopes of Harter Fell, part of the spectacular Howgills. The stunning limestone pavements of Fellend Clouds are just a short walk away. These little known hills and fells are grazed by Swaledale sheep and wild fell ponies. Buzzards soar overhead and the call of the curlew carried on the breeze.

Sandbed Cottage is ideal for a good strenuous walk or horse/bike ride up breathtaking Wild Boar Fell or a gentler meander along the valley bottom whichever you choose the scenery is breathtaking! Sandbed Cottage is situated in a perfect position for exploring the area, it is only 7 miles from the ‘Book Town’ of Sedbergh and 3 miles from Ravenstonedale, a lovely little village with two pubs serving restaurant and bar meals.

There is childrens playground in Ravenstonedale and some Gilbertine ruins in the grounds of St. Oswald's church.

Other notable local attractions include the Settle-Carlisle railway, reputedly the most attractive line in the UK, which winds its way through some of the finest scenery in Britain, runs through Mallerstang. At Mallterstang, there is the ruin of Pendragon Castle, built in the 12th century and reputed to be the place where Uther Pendragon, King Arthur's father died.

The ancient market town of Kirkby Stephen is just seven miles away and sits at the head of the Eden Valley and on Alfred Wainwrights coast-to-coast route. The area also offers river fishing on the Eden, Belah and Lune, horse riding, golf, mountain biking and paragliding. A little further afield are the fells, lakes and mountains of the Lake District and the stunning landscape of the Yorkshire Dales both offering plenty of attractions.

Sandbed is a four star Visit England cottage. It has a delightful mix of old and new features, with exposed beams, stone work and flagged floor, the furniture has been carefully hand picked to provide charm and character along with all modern conveniences.
