Access throughout the property is on one level with wide doors allowing access for guests with limited mobility. Please note: There are 3 steps from the patio to the garden, but the garden is also easily accessible via a gently sloping gravelled path.
Hen Harrier Lodge is named after the emblem bird of the Forest of Bowland, one of the last remaining strongholds for breeding Hen Harriers in England.
The Forest of Bowland is one of the best kept secrets in the UK. Those who know it come back year after year for the peace and tranquillity, rural yet easily accessible, miles of quiet walks where it is rare to see another person, beautiful villages, superb cycling routes both on and off road, amazing restaurants serving the best of local produce along with beaches, high mountains and major cities less than an hour away and, without the crowds!
Stylishly decorated throughout in Farrow and Ball colours the owners have combined work from local artists blended with contemporary and period furniture to create the perfect location for a tranquil and romantic escape away from it all.
The gorgeous open plan kitchen, diner and living room makes for a very relaxing atmosphere. The main living area with its floor to ceiling bi-folding doors leading directly to your private patio and contemporary Scandinavian style fire make it the ideal place to relax and enjoy the views across the stunning landscape at any time of year. Open and airy in Summer, snug and warm during the colder months.
A gorgeous fully fitted kitchen, and the dining area furnished with table and chairs gives ample space to enjoy a lazy breakfast or more formal dining.
The light and spacious bedroom designed with a sumptuous king-size bed dressed in good quality linen guaranties the most relaxing of nights sleep. The room offers plentiful storage with period pine wardrobe and chest of drawers. A full length mirror and dressing table with hairdryer and hair straighteners are provided. Enjoy your favourite TV programmes on the smart TV from the comfort of your bed.
Luxuriate in the exquisite bathroom with its large walk-in rainfall shower and enjoy the complementary local artisan fragrance body care toiletries. Underfloor heating and heated towel rail keep the wonderfully fluffy White Company towels and dressing robes invitingly warm.
On arrival a welcome pack is provided along with fresh eggs from the owners chickens – corn is provided if you fancy wandering over, saying hello and feeding the ‘girls’.
The private patio with furniture and umbrella overlooking Hayshaw Fell and Catshaw Fell is a perfect spot to relax or dine al-fresco.
With the unspoilt Trough of Bowland so close to the doorstep, the garden attracts a plethora of wildlife giving you the opportunity to sit and observe the local fauna and flora at your leisure. The resident Tawny Owl often visits sitting on the patio railings and you may be lucky enough to see the local deer.
For the more energetic, bike storage can be arranged pre-arrival, offering the ability to explore the local area on two wheels. Cycle hire is available locally. Local woodlands offer off-road and mountain biking courses. Local walking maps are available of the owner’s favourite walks along with advice on other great routes to try.
Hen Harrier nestles on the border of the Trough of Bowland, 6 miles from Lancaster. Ideal for exploring the North West of England. Easy access to the M6 motorway, Hen Harrier is an ideal base to explore other areas from the hills of the Lake District National Park to the coastline of Morecambe Bay. The area is a mecca for those wishing to enjoy the fresh country air and explore the local footpaths or cycle the quiet country lanes. The market town of Garstang offers a variety of shops, cafés and pubs, as well as a weekly Thursday market. The historic city of Lancaster boasts a wealth of restaurants, shops and pubs; or head up to the castle for stories of the famous Pendle witches. The nearby village of Dolphinholme boasts a welcoming traditional pub and restaurant offering a local shop within, selling local produce and essentials. Beach 16 miles.
