Seashells is a lower ground floor apartment situated in the the town of Ventnor, which has plenty of things for visitors to do, and is also close to many other attractions. A storage cupboard in the courtyard garden has everything you might need to help you relax: beach chairs, windbreak, parasol, buckets and spades. There is a also a picnic rug in the flat. Ventnor Beach, a 3-minute downhill walk, is a south-facing suntrap, and the sand and shingle beach is a great place for sunbathing and family swimming. There are lovely walks along the coast in both directions, and plenty of places to sit and admire the views.
The local fishery sells the best in local crab and lobster and Ventnor has a number of independent shops selling local produce, including a butcher, greengrocer, bakery and delicatessen. There is a wide selection of great eateries, pubs and boutique-style individual shops within a short distance.
Blackgang Chine is nearby, the oldest themed attraction in the UK, and also within easy reach are the Needles and Alum Bay. Attractions include Isle of Wight Pearl, Dinosaur Isle, the Donkey Sanctuary, the Isle of Wight Steam Railway and Calbourne Water Mill, which has a 17th-century working watermill.
Osborne House and Gardens (formerly Queen Victoria’s holiday residence), and Carisbrooke Castle are within a 30 minute drive. The sailing towns of Yarmouth and Cowes, as well as the popular resorts of Shanklin and Sandown, are nearby. The island can be explored from the open-top buses that stop regularly at various collection points. A drive along the Military Road on the south coast of the island is not to be missed for its spectacular scenery.
