Berrynarbor has a busy local shop and pub, both within walking distance, although the road from the village back to the cottage is quite steep. In Ilfracombe there are the Tunnel Beaches and the bustling harbour area guarded by Damien Hirst’s sculpture ‘Verity’. There is also a good range of shops, restaurants and other amenities. Nearby are Combe Martin Wildlife and Dinosaur Park, and Watermouth Castle. A day trip out to Lyntonand Lynmouth is also recommended.

With its Victorian history and cliff railway set against the backdrop of the Countisbury Cliffs, it is a very pretty area. At Croyde and Woolacombe you will find some of the best and cleanest surf beaches in the country, as well as many smaller coves and bays. Exmoor is a short distance away, and on a clear day, the views can be spectacular. There are National Trust properties at Arlington and Knightshayes, as well as RHS gardens at Rosemoor, Great Torrington. Cycling on the Tarka Trail, golf, horse riding and fishing are all available locally. Beach 2 miles. Shop 750 yards, pub 650 yards and restaurant 3 miles.
