Padstow, sits at the mouth of the beautiful Camel Estuary, a sanctuary for wild birds, has plenty to offer, not least as its the start (or finish) of the Camel Trail. A flat, former branch line railway that is now a multi-use trail that hugs the shore of the estuary as it flows inland. You can hire bikes on the quayside and cycle into Wadebridge, a lovely market town with local shops and cafés.
Golf courses, including Trevose, the Point and St Enedoc, are all excellent links courses and are close by.
Stunning beaches, high cliffs, world class surf and hidden coves are all within 5 miles. The South West Coast Path passes nearby through some of the country’s most dramatic scenery, and the famous Eden Project is 15 miles away and an absolute must, especially the zip wire that propels you above the stunning biomes.
The pretty harbour village of Charlestown, a regular TV and film set (check out Poldark, Taboo and many other films/programs), is easily reached within 30 minutes, and a great day out on the more subtle south coast. Shop 2 miles, pub and restaurant 1 mile.
Finding it hand to choose - isolated country cottage or holiday house close to the beach? South West England has local events and festivals throughout the year. You will see dog friendly weekend breaks in Truro and Falmouth, West Cornwall or Devon - some have golf courses close by.
