Located on what is locally known as ‘Millionaires’ Row’, Clearwater is ideal for the discerning holidaymaker, with large rooms and high ceilings on the ground floor. Its panoramic view of the open sea and Tor Bay has been described as one of the finest sea views on the south coast. Luxuriously appointed, it has Wedgewood crockery, a fully-equipped kitchen with Neff appliances, Hypnos and Vi-Spring beds, high thread-count bed linen, a ultra HD television with all the Sky Q packages, beautiful furniture and high-end furnishings. Clearwater sleeps up to seven people and the drive can accommodate up to four vehicles.
Clearwater is situated on the promontory between Lyme Bay and Tor Bay, between Torquay and Babbacombe. In the past Clearwater has been been home to a range of stars that have played at the Princess Theatre in Torquay, when all the big stars used to come for summer season and panto, and stay at Clearwater; there’s an area in the living room called ‘celebrity corner’ with a piano and signed celebrity photographs, in homage to those days. Locally, Wellswood village has a wide range of shops, including an artisan bakery, delicatessen, florist, coffee shops, hairdressers, beauty salon, Post Office, chemist and a well-stocked supermarket, all just 5 minutes away.
As you enter the property through the front door you find yourself in the wide hallway which includes a small study area. On the desk, you’ll find a welcome pack with all the information you need for a successful and enjoyable holiday. To get you going, there’s also a hamper with essentials such as tea and coffee, biscuits, cake and local fudge. You’ll also find milk in the fridge.
The living room is a very comfortable place to find yourself at the end of a busy day. The sofas and armchair are handmade, with hardwood frames and firm, supportive cushions. The gas fire, for when the evenings turn cooler, has a driftwood design. Stream your music to the stand alone Sony speaker to immerse yourself in sound. If it’s time to curl up with a book, you’ll find around 300 titles in the bookcases. All that’s assuming you can tear yourself away from the view, of course.
There are sliding doors from the living area onto ’the loggia’ (a sheltered outside area) which is everyone’s favourite place. There’s comfortable seating for up to eight people around a large glass-topped table from where you can pick grapes from the prolific vine that grows amongst the sweet-smelling honeysuckle at the back of the house.
The sun lounge is also an area of the dining room and offers a panoramic view of the open sea and the coastline of the English Riviera.
You’ll certainly see every type of leisure craft out on the water but do keep your eyes open for dolphins: there’s a large pod of them in the Bay.
Just off of the kitchen is a separate utility and garage with table tennis table and cross trainer to enjoy!
Upstairs is where the bedrooms and bathroom are all located. The large master bedroom includes a balcony with sun loungers and three built-in wardrobes and one of them includes a hotel-style safe for your valuables. Two of the wardrobes have floor-to-ceiling mirror doors, adding to the sense of light and space. The master bedroom benefits from an en-suite which is a hotel-grade bathroom. It includes a relaxing spa bath with an invigorating, high-pressure shower over. The toiletries are Sea Kelp, with a fragrance befitting a marine residence.
The garden is alive with wildlife; squirrels, rabbits, pheasants and a wide variety of garden birds visit, while foxes, badgers and bats come out when the sun goes down. The sea pine is home to a family of woodpeckers while a family of jays live in the trees at the bottom of the garden. You’ll also see buzzards and hawks overhead
