The historic city of York, 12 miles, is easily accessible and appeals to all ages with its wealth of world renowned attractions including the magnificent minster, the castle and railway museum, The Jorvik Centre and the Chocolate Story. There are art galleries and theatres, quirky shops along the cobbled streets and numerous inns serving real ale.

Castle Howard hosts an interesting programme of events and has a lovely restaurant and farm shop. Visit the abbey ruins at Kirkham Priory and Rievaulx, and the National Trust properties at Nunnington and Beningbrough.
