Beautifully presented throughout, this welcoming property is the perfect base for anyone looking to explore the surrounding countryside, with the coast only around a 20 minute drive away. Postman’s lodge is in the very heart of Great Ayton, with nearby restaurants, bars, cafés offering varied menu’s, and independent shops only a stones throw away. Surrounding the village you have the rolling hills beyond, enticing you out to enjoy the great outdoors.
Great Ayton was the boyhood home of the voyager Captain Cook, who navigated across thousands of miles of unmapped waters to become the first European to discover Australia, Hawaii and New Zealand. There is also a pretty waterfall called Waterfall Park, and it is just a short walk to where you can watch cricket in the summer months.

There are two village greens, with High Green being close to Postman’s Lodge, and the second Low Green is towards the lower part of the village and is next to the River Leven, and is a picturesque area ideal for picnics.
You can visit the Captain Cook Schoolroom Museum nearby as well as the Captain Cook Memorial Garden or his monument perched high up on the moors. There is a wonderful circular route from the monument to Roseberry Topping which is very popular with walkers due to its breath-taking views from its peak. Just 10 minutes away is Guisborough, with a woodland walking trail as well as the iconic Guisborough Priory. The priory ruins are hauntingly beautiful with huge stone arches framing the valleys and sky beyond.
In spring and summer the grounds are bursting with flowers, from bright daffodils to wild garlic.

Less than a 30-minute drive away is the coast, where you have Saltburn, a surfers’ paradise, with a Victorian pier and cliff lift as well as a golden stretch of sand and shingle. Plus further down the coast you have Staithes, Runswick Bay and Whitby, all idyllic for days out. The North Yorks Moors National Park is over 500 square miles of hills and dales, with ancient forest and woodlands, waterfalls and expanses of heather as far as the eye can see. This is a haven for wildlife, and a delight to explore. Many of the walking trails feature pubs, where you can rest and enjoy a hearty meal whilst mingling with friendly locals who are sure to recommend some of their favourite beauty spots.
