Campanula House, dating back to the 1600s, sits opposite St Oswald’s Church in the picturesque village of Askrigg and along a quiet street in the village centre. Set within Upper Wensleydale, the village’s old-world charms and amenities has made Askrigg the perfect location for a holiday in the Yorkshire Dales. Combining traditional features with modern touches for a cosy and welcoming cottage, Campanula House is comfortably furnished to a high standard, and offers spacious accommodation perfect for couples, friends or a family to enjoy a getaway in beautiful Wensleydale. The homely kitchen welcomes you with its inglenook fireplace and wood burner. Modern styled kitchen/dining room units are well-equipped with everything you need to rustle up a family meal. With a central island and large farmhouse style table making this a great social space to gather. The living room, newly refurbished in 2021 is at the rear of the property. It is light and overlooks the leafy courtyard. It has a wood burner for cosy evenings in. The snug at the heart of the property has a large wrap around sofa and invites you to curl up with the family to watch your favourite movie or box set from the Smart TV.
There is a utility room with a combined washing machine/tumble dryer and a freezer. Upstairs are three bedrooms offering flexible sleeping arrangements with a spacious, dual aspect, kingsize bedroom, newly refurbished in 2021, with en-suite facilities, at the rear of the property. There is also a double bedroom, and one single bedroom overlooking St Oswald’s Church. A family bathroom, newly refurbished in 2021, with a bath and shower over, completes this floor. Externally is a small, enclosed private courtyard with garden furniture.
The village amenities are all within a short walking distance of the house, with a well-stocked shop, popular cafe and three pubs all providing local ales and hearty meals using locally sourced produce. A further 10-minute walk takes you to the Yorkshire Dales Brewery which has a shop and, in the summer, a beer garden at weekends.
The Yorkshire Dales offer spectacular scenery and an abundance of walks of all ability levels to explore. From the house itself there are beautiful walks along the banks of the nearby River Ure and the Askrigg Waterfalls Walk, which takes in both Whitfield Force and Mill Gill Force. For the more adventurous, longer walks and climbs in Wensleydale and Swaledale are within easy reach. The Yorkshire Three Peaks can be accessed from Horton-in-Ribblesdale, 40-minute drive away. For more restful days, there is so much to see and do within an easy distance. Picturesque Aysgarth Falls and Castle Bolton are nearby, and the market towns of Leyburn and Hawes are a short drive away. The Forbidden Corner in Middleham, a quirky venue with its labyrinth of caves, folly and underground caverns, is 13 miles away, and is hugely popular with families. The historic town of Richmond, famed for its castle, Georgian theatre, riverside walks and abundance of independent shops and tea rooms, is around a 30-minute drive.
