Lightfoot House is a charming, mid-terraced Dales cottage tucked away in the picturesque village of Redmire. From the minute you arrive in the village you can feel the peace and tranquillity. The cottage offers a very good level of comfort, with a fully fitted kitchen and modern bathroom, but is also full of the character you would expect, with its original ceiling beams and wood burner set within a beautiful inglenook fireplace, offering a lovely welcome to return to after a busy day exploring.
Just 5 miles west of Leyburn, and on the outskirts of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, Redmire village is like a picture postcard, with country walks and some spectacular views over Lower Wensleydale and even has its own station on the Wensleydale Railway.
The line runs for 16 miles linking the village with Leyburn and Leeming in the Vale of York, and is serviced by diesel and occasionally steam engines making several return trips daily. Superb walking and cycling is available direct from the door, a perfect base from which to explore the pretty Dales villages. Try the circular walk from Redmire to Aysgarth taking in both the Redmire Falls and spectacular Aysgarth Falls, Castle Bolton where Mary Queen of Scots was held in the 16th century, Preston-under-Scar, the River Ure and Penhill, passing through the beautiful Dales countryside. At the end of the walk, head back to the village where you will find the local pub offering food and hand pulled ales, just a stone’s throw away from the cottage. Scenes for the TV series ’All Creatures Great and Small’ were filmed here and elsewhere in the village.
Nearby are the market towns of Hawes and Leyburn with their many shops, pubs, restaurants and craft workshops where craftsmen display their skills and sell hand made products. Historical castles and ruins are numerous with Bolton Castle almost on the doorstep and Middleham Castle a few miles away. From Middleham square you can sit and watch the impressive sight as the race horses pass through on their way to the gallops. The Forbidden Corner is just down the road with its labyrinth of tunnels and underground caves to explore. There is so much to do and see you will certainly want to come back. Shop and restaurant 5 miles, pub 200 yards
Need a hand deciding - city pied-a-terre or seaside holiday cottage? Yorkshire is very accessible by road and rail. You will see holiday cottages that are dog friendly in Yorkshire coast, Pennines or Flamborough - some have games rooms.
