Pickering even has its own castle and Beck Isle Museum, and hosts many events throughout the year, including the 1940s War Time Weekend in October. There are lots of quaint villages and towns within a short drive such as Thornton-le-Dale, Hutton-le-Hole, Rosedale, Kirbymoorside, Malton, Helmsley and Thirsk all with individual shops, cafés, traditional pubs, galleries, museums and historic buildings.
The vibrant, ancient city of York is just 26 miles away, and can be accessed by road, public transport or the Park and Ride. There are many historic houses, abbeys and museums nearby including Castle Howard, one of the UK’s finest stately homes. Also within easy access is Eden Camp Museum, Duncombe Park with its bird of prey centre, and Ryedale Folk Museum in Hutton-le-Hole.
There is private parking at the rear of the cottage so you can enjoy an amble through the owner’s private walled garden when returning at the end of a day out. Beach 18 miles. Shop and restaurant 50 yards, pub 300 yards
