Manor House Cottage is the ideal destination in which to unwind, relax and enjoy the countryside that surrounds it. It is a quirky upside down cottage featuring a modern kitchen on the ground floor with spacious bedrooms on either side. The living room is upstairs and is perfect for relaxing in front of the modern flame-effect fire and enjoying views across the wonderful gardens.
Located next door to the owners, they have much experience in providing guest accommodation in North Yorkshire. The Manor House dating back to 1722 and Grade II listed, has been a real renovation project! The detached cottage has been lovingly renovated but has kept its cosy country cottage atmosphere, decorated throughout with soft furnishings handmade by the owner, Yorkshire tweed covered settees in the sitting room and beautiful brass and metal beds in the bedrooms. The owner volunteers as an assistant county organiser for the Yorkshire National Garden Scheme, and in July the gardens at the Manor House will be opened to raise money for the charity.
Tucked away in a small hamlet, Manor House Cottage is the last property on a no through road, offering off the beaten track seclusion but with easy access to all that North Yorkshire has to offer. It is located equidistant between the thriving market towns of Thirsk and Ripon, offering race courses, a stunning cathedral in Ripon and the James Herriot Museum in Thirsk. There are good travel connections from the A1 and A19. The property is a great central base for travelling further afield with the Yorkshire Dales and Pennines to the west and the Vale of York and North York Moors National Park to the east. The coast and Yorkshire’s many market towns and cities offering great houses, abbeys and castles are not too far away.
There is plenty to see and do including cycling, walking, fishing, golf, country shows and festivals. Alternatively just slow down, stay close to home and explore the local area. Stroll from the house down to the river, enjoy an abundance of wildlife and all the birds that occupy the gardens, including the owl just outside the cottage. Bring your camera, sketch pad, paints and relax here in the gardens. There is an amazing, walled kitchen garden with plenty of herbs and vegetables for those who love to cook.
Masham, a characterful small Dales town set around a market square, is easily reached and has two breweries offering tours. There are a good selection of shops and galleries showcasing the work of local artists and craft workers. Masham Sheep Fair is held every September, a real highlight. Shop 3 miles, pub and restaurant 2 miles
