Caedmon’s Dream is a great base for your next family expedition to Yorkshire.
The cottage is named after one of Whitby’s famous residents, the oldest known poet in England. Caedmon was an illiterate cow herder who lived in Whitby back in the medieval days. One night after a busy day tending to the cattle, he had a dream where he was singing beautifully and it filled his heart with joy. When he woke he began creating songs and poetry. The locals heard him singing and they were inspired by his incredible talent. Word spread and he became an accomplished and much admired poet. He joined the monks at Whitby Abbey, writing hymns and poems about God and today you can see his memorial cross outside St Mary’s Church. Beach ¾ mile. Shop and pub 20 yards, restaurant 25 yard
