Extra Amenities

Set right in the heart of Whitby’s historic old town, this cottage is aptly named after the old cobbled street that leads you through the town from the iconic swing bridge which opens for boats sailing up and down the harbour, past your door step and the quirky independent shops and cafés to the foot of the 199 steps which take you up to the abbey.
A former fisherman’s cottage, this Grade II listed property from 1785 has been lovingly renovated and restored in 2020. The owner has taken care to ensure that the character and features of the building remain as part of its charm and history, with wooden beams and winding staircases, yet with fitted bathrooms and a kitchen, you will find many of your home comforts. This cottage provides every guest with a warm welcome and a truly memorable, authentic Whitby experience. With the many attractions of the town just outside your front door, there is no better place to be!
Whitby is a small historic town with a fascinating history, oodles of character and traditions as well as a proud seafaring heritage.

It has a special place in the hearts of the many visitors who come to explore, with many guests returning year after year. Come and see for yourself what makes this place so special. Tate Hill beach, where Dracula was said to arrive in Bram Stoker’s bestselling novel, is nestled less than 100 yards away. Steeped in history, Whitby is home to a marina, a busy colourful harbour and the 12th-century abbey ruins towering over the town. Take a stroll along the cobbles of Church Street, lined with antiques shops, inns and tea rooms, and climb the 199 steps that take you to the abbey and St Mary’s Church, with breathtaking views over the harbour and across to Sandsend. An award-winning beach stretches for miles before your eyes, it’s perfect for a family day of fun at the seaside.
Whitby hosts many festivals throughout the year including the 60s festival and folk week, regatta week and not forgetting Goth weekends when the streets are packed with visitors from far and wide, dressed in their stunning outfits.

Board the North Yorkshire Moors Steam Train, sit back and relax as it chugs its way through the stunning Esk Valley into Grosmont and Goathland, Heartbeat’s very own villages. Ideally located for exploring the North Yorkshire Moors National Park and the Heritage Coast of Yorkshire with so much to do and see, you may need to plan a return visit! Beach 75 yards. Shop and restaurant 10 yards, pub 20 yards.
Please note: Cobblestones windows, in order to comply with grade 2 listing, are wooden single glazed. Church Street is a tourist area, and some late evening noise from people leaving pubs and restaurants is inevitable. Early morning street cleaning, refuse collection, and deliveries can be heard from the bedrooms. Cobblestones is a 5 storey building with a quirky spiral staircase. There are good views from the lounge first and second floor bedrooms of bustling Church Street. However there are a total of 48 stairs from the basement kitchen to the attic bedroom and the property is not suitable for those with limited mobility
