A cosy cottage on a small, peaceful holiday development on the outskirts of Whitby. Keel Cottage provides an excellent base for couples and families wanting to explore the North Yorks Moors National Park and the pretty seaside villages of the Yorkshire Coast. Keel Cottage has three bedrooms, and the living/dining area has sliding doors onto a sunny patio with a picnic bench for an al fresco breakfast or an evening drink. The cottage has lovely views over open countryside to the moors beyond. The steam trains on the North York Moors Railway pass along the riverside just at the bottom of the valley.

Take a trip on the train and enjoy the market town of Pickering or stop off in Goathland, better known by many as ‘Aidensfield’, the fictional village of the TV series ‘Heartbeat’ and familiar to many as ‘Hogsmeade’ station in the early Harry Potter films.
Within the well-kept landscaped grounds there is plenty of green space, two small playgrounds and picnic tables with gas barbecues are provided from Easter to October. You can walk down through the complex to stand beneath the viaduct and there is plenty of wildlife in the area ranging from a cheeky seal, to heron and ducks. The cottage is some 200 yards from the ‘Cinder Track’, the old railway line running 20 miles between Whitby and Scarborough which is used extensively by walkers and cyclists. A 20-minute walk across the impressive viaduct with its views down the river will take you to the centre of Whitby with its welcoming tea rooms, a host of restaurants and quirky shops.

Whitby is host to many festivals during the course of the year, welcoming Goths and Steampunks and it has its own Regatta.

The town also welcomes musicians from around the world to the fabulous MusicPort Festival and the Summer Folk Week. Walk in the steps of Bram Stoker, author of Dracula, as you climb up the 199 steps to the iconic ruin that is Whitby Abbey and enjoy spectacular views across the town towards the moors and out to sea. The sandy beach to the west of the town with its sea front promenade and colourful beach huts stretches 2 miles to the pretty village of Sandsend. In the early autumn the surrounding moors turn purple as the heather blooms and there is nothing nicer than a stroll through one of the moorland villages. Around 6 miles away is the thriving village of Robin Hoods Bay with its narrow streets full of smugglers tales, ghostly goings on and with a beach perfect for rock pooling. Fishing and golf can be found nearby. Beach 2 miles. Shop ½ mile, pub and restaurant 1 mile.

Although these properties are approximately 25 yards apart, Keel Cottage (ref CC243095) can be booked together with Capstan Cottage (ref UK2335) to accommodate up to 12 guests.
