Extra Amenities

Located in the village of Sleights and just 4 miles from the centre of Whitby, Hill View Cottage is a beautiful two bedroomed bungalow and is ideally located for exploring both the North York Moors and the Yorkshire Heritage Coast. The property offers superb views over the Echo Hill and Battle View, the site of a civil war skirmish following the siege of Scarborough Caste. This cottage, in the Esk Valley is an ideal base for couples and small families alike with much to see and do around the area.
The village centre of Sleights is a few minutes walking distance away with a supermarket, café, famous butchers and bakers. The villages of Briggswath and Ruswarp are within easy distance and both make a great day out by the river with boating opportunities, garden tea rooms, a miniature railway, children’s play centre and a locally run garden centre with café, putting green and croquet.
Whitby is close by with its famous cobbled streets, a wonderful array of shops, boutiques, pubs, tea rooms and an ice cream shop. The famous 12th-century Whitby Abbey and St Mary’s church sits on the hilltop, reached by 199 steps - the view from the top over the harbour and town is worth the effort.

This vibrant, bustling town with a marina, beaches and individual shops, is ideal for those who want plenty to do. Whitby is a bustling fishing town and is home to many amazing events throughout the year, including the bi-annual Goth Weekender, an annual folk festival, a Christmas Festival, the Whitby Regatta and 60s festivals, when the town comes alive with visitors from far and wide. Hop aboard one of the tourist boats for a different view of the town, and there is also the possibility of whale and dolphin sightings if the season is right. A 3-mile stretch of sandy beach, a colourful harbour, a marina, alleyways and ginnels lined with quaint little cottages complete the picture.
Just 6 miles from the property brings you into the village of Goathland, made famous as ’Aidensfield’ in the TV series ‘Heartbeat’. From here you can board the North York Moors steam train and take a memorable journey through the glorious Esk Valley, arriving in the market town of Pickering, a station used in the first Harry Potter film.

Walking enthusiasts will love the bridle paths and walkways which abound from the door. The North York Moors is home to many quaint villages with inns and tea rooms tucked away deep in the valley awaiting discovery.
A little further to the south is the seaside town of Scarborough with an eclectic mix of shopping, museums, art galleries, restaurants and the North and South Bays boasting fine sandy beaches, fun fairs, amusement arcades and donkey rides. To the north of Whitby in walking distance from the town is Sandsend, with a popular beach for young children and shops and cafés for the adults. Further up the coast is Staithes, the home of artists and Cbeebies ’Old Jack’s Boat’. The walled city of York is approximately an hour’s drive and well worth a visit. Historic homes, halls and castles are plentiful in this part of North Yorkshire and are easily reached. There is so much to see in this area, guests find themselves returning year after year. Beach 4½ miles. Shop, pub and restaurant ½ mil
