Moon River Cottage is situated right next to the estuary in Whitby Harbour. You can sit on your own private terrace and watch the boats go by, they are so close you can almost touch them as they sail past towards the sea. There is also a great view of the steam trains coming into the railway station. The North York Moors Steam Railway travels across the North York Moors from the pretty market town of Pickering, calling off at Goathland, the fictional village ’Aidensfield’ in the popular TV programme ’Heartbeat’, and travelling on to Whitby.
Just a 5 minute walk and you are in the centre of Whitby, in fact you could park your car and hardly use it all week, there is so much to see and do right on your doorstep. The cottage has a terraced area to all three sides of the property so you can catch the sun all day, and it has one of the best views in Whitby of the estuary leading out to sea and towards the abbey perched on the hill top. Whitby is a very popular seasidetown with a lovely long sandy beach and a busy working harbour.
The tourists flock each year to see the abbey made famous by Bram Stoker, the author of Dracula, the abbey being his inspiration for the book. Further north there’s the resorts of Sandsend and Staithes and to the south you will find Robin Hood’s Bay and Scarborough. It’s a great base to visit the North Yorkshire Moors National Park and the east coast. Beach ¾ mile. Shop 400 yards, pub and restaurant 500 yards
