Shilbottle is located equidistant, being less than 4 miles away, between the historic market town of Alnwick and the pretty coastal village of Alnmouth. There is a variety of local facilities within this welcoming village all around ½ mile from Sea View, horse riding is available in the village as well as walks direct from the cottage.
There is also a wide array of amenities including a cinema/playhouse, restaurants, independent shops and a variety of pubs available within Alnwick. Alnwick Castle, home to the Duke of Northumberland, (and film location for Harry Potter’s Hogwarts!), is a popular visitor attraction, or visit the Alnwick Gardens; a spectacular interpretation of a formal garden, including a grand cascade waterfall and poison garden, and visitors can dine in the restaurant of the largest tree house in Europe. The picture postcard village of Alnmouth offers a variety of good restaurants, pubs and tea rooms. For sailing enthusiasts there are yachts available and small boat moorings within the sheltered estuary. Golf lovers will delight in the two courses close by; one being a fine 9-hole course adjacent to the beach and the other being a challenging 18-hole course at Foxton enjoying panoramic views.
Also, the towns of Warkworth and Amble are close by, both of which have excellent restaurants, pubs and shops. Visit the castle and beach in Warkworth, as well as the marina and quayside in Amble. From Amble, enjoy a boat trip round Coquet Island bird sanctuary.
Sea View is an excellent choice for those seeking a homely base that gives easy access to explore the beautiful 20-mile stretch of Heritage coastline designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty to the east and the wild and lonely expanses of the heather-capped Cheviot Hills to the west. Bus routes to Alnwick and Newcastle are available nearby and the Sustrans Cycle Route (route 1) is easily joined from the property. Good convenience store, pharmacy, post office ½ mile away. There is an Indian restaurant/takeaway and a pub 1 mile awa
