This stone-built home offers spacious and elegant accommodation, with vaulted ceilings, original beams, an open fire and a bespoke kitchen/dining room with Aga. The house has been configured so that all bedrooms, the main living room and kitchen take advantage of the spectacular views across Budle Bay and to Holy Island. There is also a small snug/sitting room with DVD player and built-in wardrobes. The house is situated on Northumberland’s Heritage Coast, in an AONB famous for its bird life and miles of sandy beaches. Two miles from the house is the village of Bamburgh, with its imposing castle, Grace Darling museum, pubs, butcher and general store. Three miles further up the road is the bustling little seaside village of Seahouses, where boat trips can be taken to the Farne Islands to visit the grey seals and migrating sea birds nestling on the nature reserves maintained by the NT.
The area is well known for its many castles, golf courses and stately homes. Alnwick Castle (of Harry Potter fame) and Alnwick Garden is half an hour south from Budle. Holy Island is a short drive away and is reached by a causeway at low tide; it is one of the oldest sites of Christianity in Britain. On the island is the 16th-century Lindisfarne Castle (seen from the kitchen of Beach View), remodelled by Lutyens and with a small Gertrude Jekyll garden. Inland, the Cheviots and moors are ideal for walking, cycling and pony trekking. Berwick-upon-Tweed, with its ancient walls, is 30 minutes away, whilst Newcastle, with regenerated quayside, museums, art galleries and shops, is an hour’s drive. Edinburgh is a little further afield but easily managed, especially by train. Shops 2 mile
